At Believe, we take it to heart to introduce you to the artists with whom we have the privilege of working. But as you know, many labels around the world also place their trust in us.  And with our new Label Focus series, we hope to highlight several of them over the coming months.

For this first article, we decided to take a look at KithLabo, one of our own imprints. It might sound partial, but KithLabo has just celebrated its 5th anniversary, so this is a great timing. And the perfect opportunity to interview Believe Indonesia’s Head of Artist Services, Pananingtyas Prabantari - Ririe for her colleagues and friends -  about this label which brings together many pop artists who are regulars on the Indonesian charts.

Hello Ririe! So, can you tell us what is KithLabo exactly?

Pananingtyas Prabantari: KithLabo quietly appeared on the Indonesian music scene in July 2020. It was founded to focus on the work of Indonesian urban pop musicians. From the start, we had the great opportunity to collaborate with talented musicians such as Hindia.Feast, Sal Priadi and Yura Yunita. Five years on, these artists who first placed their trust in us are now among the top figures in the Indonesian music scene.

What was the idea behind KithLabo creation? Has artistic direction evolved since the early days?

Pananingtyas Prabantari: The concept and values of KithLabo are evident in the combination of the words Kith (as in “Kith and kin”) and Labo (for laboratory). Our artists are encouraged to explore and experiment with their craft and actively connect with audiences, especially through digital means; they are our partners in our quest to reach and engage their communities. KithLabo empowers them with effective marketing to grow audience and streams.

Our artistic direction has not significantly changed. We've always strived to live up to our core values, and it feel likes these values have resonated with the Indonesian music scene, allowing us to continue to grow in our first five years. That’s why “echoing the values” was our tagline for KithLabo’s five-year celebrations.

Who are the artists involved with KithLabo?

Pananingtyas Prabantari: Besides Hindia, Sal Priadi, the first musicians to be involved with KithLabo I’ve mentioned earlier, we also work with top-notch names in the Indonesian urban pop scene: Idgitaf, Kunto Aji, RAN, Adikara, Aldi Haqq, GANGGA, Teddy Adhitya, Rendy Pandugo and many others.

What would you say have been your greatest achievement since KithLabo was founded five years ago?

Pananingtyas Prabantari: It’s tough to pick only one because there are many achievements we’re very proud of! Hindia for instance was the first Indonesian male singer that reached 1 billion streams on Spotify for his album Menari Dengan Bayangan, which also spent the longest time on Top Albums Indonesia, for 242 weeks in a row. Yura Yunita received the Best Pop Female Singers award at the AMI Awards 4 times and stayed #1 for 14 days on Indonesia YouTube Music Video Trending Charts with "Dunia Tipu-Tipu".

Also, last year, Sal Priadi’s single “Gala Bunga Matahari” reached #1 on Indonesia YouTube Trending for Music within 24 hours and the same song stayed #1 for 3 weeks on Spotify Weekly Top Songs Indonesia Charts. And that’s only a few of them!

Are there any exciting projects on the radar for KithLabo in the months and years ahead?

Pananingtyas Prabantari: We have recently released Klise and Road To Peak of Love, the debut albums from Adikara and Aldi Haqq. These two rising urban pop musicians are the most recent signatures on KithLabo. We've just started work on promoting their first albums and will be concentrating on developing their careers.
